"The Project" - Freelander CT98
The Camel Trophy Owners Club celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2007 and to celebrate, Tim Cann and the other Keynsham Camels embarked upon a project to recreate a Defender 300Tdi High Capacity Pick Up, known as "CT10". We had a break from creating a display in 2008 whilst we concentrated in the Land Rover 60th Annivesary Canel Trophy Reunion. In 2009 our show project was restoring the 1989 Camel Trophy Team UK winning vehicle, which still belongs to the legend that is Bob Ives.
Late in the 2009 show season plans were laid for another recreation. This time we had our eyes on a Freelander but we kept the exact plan a closely guarded secret from our friends in the CTOC. A shell was donated to the project by Jon Daunter Land Rover Breakers and we set about stripping it and Camelifying it. The project was revealed at Gaydon and then toured the main Land Rover shows in 2010.
